DUMP THE RESOLUTIONS!
Happy 2024!
Of course with these words generally comes the question, “What are your resolutions?” However, statistics show that 23% give up on their resolutions within the first week, 35% do not keep their resolutions over a month, and only 9% successfully keep their resolutions. The goal of our new year resolutions is to improve ourselves. It’s a worthy cause, but not the most effective in making change. Why? There are multiple steps to lose weight, but they haven’t been identified.
Set goals vs. resolutions! If you make your goals S.M.A.R.T. from the beginning you are on the right track and will likely stay on track. Goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time- bound. When goals are S.M.A.R.T. there is no question about what needs to be done to accomplish them. And, this creates more confidence that you can accomplish them! Here’s an example of a S.M.A.R.T. goal: I will do 3 HIIT workouts per week, walk a mile every day, eat no more than 2,000 calories per day in order to lose 10 pounds by the end of February.
Why Resolutions Don’t Work!
Resolutions only state the end result. When you don’t break them down into tactics that will get you there, it’s likely you won’t even start.
Resolutions sound simpler than they are, such as I will lose weight. Of course, only 9% will keep their resolutions.
Resolutions are de-motivating. ‘I will lose weight’ reminds you that you have resolved to do this for years, and haven’t done it…and the result, you have no motivation to do what you have failed at for years.
So, instead of setting 4-5 resolutions, choose to set 1 or 2 S.M.A.R.T. goals and feel success in the new year!
